"They just draw and do art stuff. What's so hard about that?"
Can I please have the pleasure to slap the people who kept saying such statements like the one above? Because really, being JUDGEMENTAL and being IGNORANT are like two different things.
Anyway, first of all, this blog post is not going to be how you expect a lowdown would be where we'd get emotional and I'd enumerate sixty different reasons why taking an art as a major is just as hard as any career out there so stop judging us all artists. In this post, we'll have fun and I'll tell you five facts I learned in my four years in college as an MMA student. Yes, I actually wrestle. (Okay, that one's a joke.... It's also an abbrv. for Multimedia Arts...)
First of all, believe in the saying 'Don't judge the book by its cover.' It's cliche but seriously, I decided to keep this in mind at all times. Remember that nerdy kid at school who liked manga and anime? You probably thought he'd be great at drawing those kind of stuff right? But no, you're wrong. It's that girl you called bitch for talking behind your back one time that's acing her plates and getting her painting a feature for a school exhibit. Yup, damn.
We really don't have a lot of exams, but damn, can I please take a break with these projects?
"What are you doing?"
"I'm doing something for school, mom!"
"You don't even study!"
"I have a project I need to finish, the deadline's close."
“You're getting too obsessed. You're spending all your time in front your laptop."
"MAYBE BECAUSE I DO WEB AND GRAPHIC STUFF MOM AND ITS ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED TO USE MODERN TECHNOLOGY SO I CAN BE ABLE TO FINISH IT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH."
Third, I rule, you rule, we all bloody rule. It's a given that I got in to a very cool school with very cool kids and very cool professors. So, it's like an even higher level of democracy we have at school. Why? I can wear what I want as long as it won't make me look like a whore. (There's still rules, heh.) In some way or another, there will always be a place I can sleep. And really, who says I made something wrong. You see, I’m perfectly imperfect. ;)
Next up, Food is holy. Food, yes, food. I don't think I need to explain this any further. Being an art student, food is like the extension to our hands, besides a pencil, a paint brush or a pen tablet. It has a connection deeper than any blood relation. So don't believe anyone who says they can't even eat food because of art school. Because art is food and food is art.
And lastly, 'Hi, you probably don't know who I am but I just want to tell you we're actually best friends. I was initially scared of human beings. I don't feel comfortable with strangers at all so entering college, I feel like I'm going in a death trap. But really, as time goes on, that fear completely vanished, because communication is so essential in surviving college. I've made a lot of friends over the years, talked to people I won't even dare to approach if I was the same back then. It's a huge step that really meant a lot to me.
So, there you go, five things to sum up what I practically learned in college (well, aside from academic stuff, of course!). I’m planning on blogging more about college since I’m all inspired these days because I’m near graduation. I’ll probably do some listings and tips or share my experiences. I hope you had fun reading and learned something at least? Heh. Though I’m not sure there’s anything to learn in today’s post. Well, I just really want to make yawl smile. Anyway, that’s it for now. Tooodles!
